It was built in the 1930s for MGM's Irving Thalberg and the actress Norma Shearer. Cedric Gibbons designed it. He also designed the Oscar statuette. Leana Greene has lived here since 1999. She restored it herself.
Thalberg opens for a handful of weddings each year. Not because it's closed off. Because it's still her home.
